How to get to Palembang

By Plane

Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II International Airport (PLM). Recently rebuilt in another location into a modern airport. It just opened at the end of 2005. International flight operated by SilkAir [1] from Singapore and AirAsia to Kuala Lumpur (begin 10th March 2011). Some domestic flights include Jakarta (frequent), Pangkal Pinang, Batam, etc. Domestic departure tax is Rp 35,000, while international is Rp 100,000. Liberal looking foreigners should expect to have thier bags searched for contraband items. Taxis in the airport are overpriced due to lack of competition, as of January 2014 prices should be around 70-90k rp to Palembang Indah Mall, Palembang Square mall or near to the bridge, depending on the mood of the driver. Bluebirds use a meter and are safest, but you can get a Transmusi local bus to town instead, which is cheaper.

By Bus

Palembang connected by inland bus transportation to other cities in Sumatra (Jambi, Padang, Pekanbaru, Medan and Lampung) also to Jakarta crossing Sunda strait by ferry.

By train

Rail transport to Palembang are limited, the only passenger trains running is a twice-daily service from Bandar Lampung near the southeastern tip of Sumatra. This connection can be quite useful if traveling from Jakarta overland.

The main station is Palembang-Kertapati, often shortened to just Kertapati is located two kilometres south of city centre.
